Whale Scanner 🐋
How to read the institutional flow data
Understanding the Whale Scanner
The GLS Equity Scanner is designed to do one thing: find anomalies in the options market. When massive institutions (hedge funds, banks, algorithm desks) take a position, they leave a footprint. We track that footprint.
What is the Multiple?
This is the most important metric on the scanner. Volume represents how many contracts were traded today. Open Interest (OI) represents how many contracts existed prior to today.
The Golden Rule: If today's Volume is significantly larger than the existing Open Interest, it means new, massive positions are being opened. The higher the Multiple, the more aggressive the buying or selling.
New Intelligence Features
- Setup Logic: We run the contract math (Strike vs Stock Price & DTE) to determine the likely institutional intent. Click any colored Setup badge to read a detailed breakdown of the strategy.
- Estimated Value: We calculate the actual cash premium the institution paid to open the block (Volume * Premium * 100) to help you gauge their conviction level.
Trading Application
Do not blindly follow flow. The scanner is an idea-generation tool. When you see a massive Multiple on a specific ticker, pull up the stock chart. Look for technical support/resistance, upcoming earnings reports, or macroeconomic news that justifies the institutional urgency. Combine the data with your own strategy.
